Spartan Hoopla: Who Is Kalin Lucas? Jahmar Young Will Soon Find Out

In the spirit of competition, New Mexico State's premier guard Jahmar Young, dropped the ultimate diss on Spartan point-guard Kalin Lucas.

Young said he didn't really know who Lucas was.

Really?

It's hard to believe that Mr. Young hasn't heard one word about the former Big Ten Player of the Year.

It's hard to fathom that Young hasn't even heard a whisper uttered about Lucas' break-neck speed frenzy style of basketball.

And what about his clutch moments?

Kansas, Minnesota, and Michigan have all experienced "Too Easy's" mediocre and forgettable play. There is a laundry list of players, coaches and teams that likely uttered an expletive in reference to the Spartans' do-it-all point-man.

That's just how it goes. He hasn't earned the nickname "Too Easy" for nothing.

Young's message to the media was a sly way of talking trash. Plain and simple.

Michigan State is one of the nation's upper echelon programs—he's surely heard the name "Kalin Lucas" before.

Lucas graced Sports Illustrated's college basketball preview in 2009-10.

Maybe Young doesn't subscribe to SI. He gets a pass on that one.

Lucas was also on the cover of 2K Sports: College Hoops 2K9 .

Maybe the New Mexico State star doesn't play video games.

Of course, competition can bring out the sharp-tongue in all of us—we're all guilty of a little smack-talk every now and then. What fun would it be if everyone were civil and polite? It's March and every team needs whatever edge it can get.

A spark needs to be lit under the Michigan State Spartans' rear—Young's comment couldn't have come at a better time. 

And when Michigan State comes out swinging against the Aggies with a full head of steam ready to deliver a knock-out blow, New Mexico State's Jahmar Young will be the one to thank for it.
