Fantasy MMA: Open Weight Grand Prix, Championship Match

It has been a long and arduous journey thus far but we have made it to the end. What started as a competition between 32 of the world’s finest fighters is now down to just two men.

Two men who embody what it truly means to be a mixed martial artist.

The battle between the Brazil Regional champion, Anderson Silva, and the Japan Regional champion, Fedor Emelianenko was a war.

Silva jumped out to an early lead but Fedor—as he has done so many times before—weathered the early storm and came back to win the matchup by a vote of 12-7.

The other semifinal matchup was not nearly as close. As Canadian Regional champion, Georges St. Pierre, proved to be far too much for US Regional champion, Dan Henderson, beating him by a vote of 16-3.

Fedor is arguably the greatest fighter to ever compete in MMA but this master of Judo and Combat Sambo is not without flaws.

While Fedor will have a definitive size advantage in this matchup, he shows vulnerability to being taken down and mounted. Also, Fedor’s history of being cut with relative ease is always something to keep in mind.

On the other hand, Fedor is Fedor. He has beaten elite strikers on his feet and world class grapplers on the ground.

Finding a way to defeat a man who can beat you where you are the best is a very tall order, an order that no one has truly been able to accomplish.

Can GSP be the man to defeat the invincible and play David to the Goliath that is Fedor?

GSP is one of the best wrestlers in MMA even though he has never competed in competitive amateur wrestling.

Add to that his diverse striking ability, strong BJJ, and insane athletic ability and GSP could have enough tools to get the job done. But, will the size and strength disadvantage prove to be too much for this warrior to overcome?
