2010 NCAA Tournament Mascot Showdown: West 2nd Round

The votes have been cast and the matchups for the West Region 2nd Round are set.

(1) Syracuse Orange vs. (9) Florida State Seminoles

The Orange pulled out a huge win over the Catamounts in Round One and showed that a color can be a good mascot.

The Seminoles snuck by the Bulldogs, mostly because there are so many bulldog teams this year and people are tired of normal cat or dog family names.

This is a good matchup; the fans of the Orange and Seminoles came out and voted in the first round, so it is up to the fans on this one.

(5) Butler Bulldogs vs. (13) Murray State Racers

Butler was one of the few cat and dog family mascots to make it to the next round, beating the Miners, who received no votes.

The Racers handily drowned the Commodores in the first round.

Racers are on horseback and can race away from Bulldogs.

(11) Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. (14) Oakland Golden Grizzlies

My theory on adding "golden" to the name would make it stupid was wrong. Both teams advanced in their first round matchups.

The Golden Gophers ate up the 3 Musketeers bar, and the Golden Grizzlies destroyed the Panthers.

Grizzlies are much stronger than gophers, but gophers can run away, and remember both of these teams are golden.

(10) Florida Gators vs. (2) Kansas State Wildcats

The Gators have a chance to go 2-for-2 against members of the cat family after beating the Cougars in Round One.

The Wildcats broke the cat family curse by winning because they played the Mean Green, one of the weakest mascot in the whole tourney.

The Gators should have no problem going 2-for-2, but the Wildcats could surprise people.

Vote on the poll until Monday when the Sweet 16 will be announced.
