Georges St. Pierre Is Ready to Deliver a Beautiful Beatdown at UFC 111

Robert GardnerMar 16, 2010

In the world of Mixed Martial Arts there are basically two types of fighters.

There are the brawlers and then there are the technicians.

Brawlers like to take risks and throw caution to the wind. Technicians stick to a carefully designed game plan and methodically pick their opponents apart.

At UFC 111, fans will have the opportunity to witness this clash of styles. UFC welterweight champion, and prototypical MMA fighter, Georges St. Pierre will put his belt on the line against British brawler and trash talking sensation, Dan Hardy.

St. Pierre stated today during a UFC media conference call, that he wishes not only to win, but to do so in a fashion that would display his artistry as a fighter.

St. Pierre believes that he will be the more technical fighter come March 27, and his technical expertise will play a deciding role in the outcome of his fight with Hardy.

This will be a fight in which St. Pierre will also be unveiling his new physique, which includes roughly five more pounds of lean muscle mass. This is mass that St. Pierre felt he desperately needed after his fight with Thiago Alves at UFC 100. With some added muscle and a wide array of weapons at his disposal, St. Pierre will enter the Octagon as a heavy favorite to defend his welterweight title.

However, St. Pierre knows that Dan Hardy is a fierce competitor and one that should not be overlooked.

Underestimating Dan Hardy would be a huge mistake as he has nothing to lose in this matchup and everything to gain—a very dangerous combination. Even though this is a dangerous combination, it is a combination that the champion is very familiar with.

In his first title defense, St. Pierre faced the winner of season four of The Ultimate Fighter , Matt Serra.

Serra was a heavy underdog heading into the fight and he managed to shock the world by taking St. Pierre’s belt via first round TKO.

While St. Pierre is not surprised that Hardy has been working with Serra in preparation for their upcoming fight, it has to weigh a bit heavy on St. Pierre's mind.

Could lighting strike twice, or will St. Pierre continue his reign of dominance over the welterweight division?

One thing is for sure—St. Pierre is focused, confident, and ready for whatever tricks Dan Hardy has up his sleeve.
