South Davidson 63 South Stanley 58
This was the game Wildcat fans had been waiting for. The second game against South Stanley. The first matchup went to the Wildcats by a ten point margin of victory at South Stanley. At South Stanley, the fans really got into the game and tried getting in the head of the Wildcat players, but to no avail. We planned on doing the same thing when they traveled to our stadium.
The Wildcats came quickly out of the gates with three, three pointers by Josh McClure and were suddenly up 9-2. That's when the trash-talk from the student section began. Alex Grubb drained a beautiful jumper, Doug Russell controlled the pain and Wil Collins continued to wow the fans with his great athletic ability. The first ends with a high scoring affair for the Cats. SD:24 SS:9
In the second quarter, McClure continued his hot start, hitting shot after shot, but the second quarter was very unfriendly to the cats keeping them to a ten point quarter and amazingly South Stanley crawled their way back into the game. These kids could jump out of the gym. Offensive rebounds give you second chance points and they capitalized on both! Halftime Score SD:34 SS:25
Both teams seemed to have a big quarter throughout the competition, while the other didn't. The first quarter went to the Wildcats, the second went to South Stanley and the third was domination by the Wildcats. Tenacious defense and an aggressive offensive attack lead to this eruption. McClure continued to do his thing,m Alex Grubb executed and another player awoke and came alive offensively. Dane Hill continuously put the ball on the floor and attacked the basket. There was nothing South Stanley could do to stop the guys in this quarter. The student section by the way, remained relentless! Really getting into the head of the South Stanley team. I like to think they played a huge contribution to the halftime score being SD:54 SS:34
The final quarter went to South Stanley. You have to give them credit, no matter how much they trailed, they never once hung their heads low and threw in the towel. Because of that, they found themselves in the ballgame with a minute and a half left. 56-52..Wildcat lead. With the South Stanley players screaming and the team full of momentum, Tyler Davis caught the ball on the left wing and calmly drained a three, killing all hopes of a comeback. Wil Collins added four free-throws. SD:63 SS:58
Josh McClure had a season high (maybe career high) 26 points.
Dustin Kimbrell- "What are your thoughts on the game?"
Wil Collins- "It was a tough game, but we managed to get things done in the end".
