Is Arsenal's Samir Nasri Good Enough To Make the French World Cup Squad?

Callum D'SouzaMar 16, 2010

Samir Nasri was Arsenal's main buy of the 2008 summer. The talented Frenchman was brought in from Marseille for £12 million. Arsenal needed a strong replacement for Alexander Hleb. The Belrussian had been so dominant down the left wing and he had left a gaping hole by departing to Spanish giants Barcelona. Fortunately Nasri is a immensely talented midfielder.

The French international had a stellar début season under the red and white. The 22-year-old amassed an impressive 44 appearances and 7 goals for the Gunners. But sadly on the eve of the 2009/2010 season the former Marseille man suffered a leg break in training after he collided with team mate Abou Diaby.

Arsenal's No. 8 missed the first few months of the campaign but has since returned and is finally returning to his courageous form which was evident last season. With the World Cup in South Africa looming, and French handling themselves a place in it, Samir Nasri has begun to question if he is capable of making a appearance for the French side.

France boast a talented midfield so it will be struggle for the midfielder. However whilst at Marseille, Nasri was the spearhead of the attack and he performed little short of brilliantly for the French giants. Since joining Arsenal Nasri has performed strongly but lacks the responsibility he deserves and needs to thrive.

In Arsenal recent Champion's League fixture with Porto, the absence of captain Cesc Fabregas allowed Nasri to take the main midfielding role. It was clear who strong he can be when given the responsibility to have a main role in the attack.

So is Samir Nasri capable of receiving a place in France's World Cup squad?
