Will Power Wins IndyCar Race In Sao Paulo

Will Power had the comeback story of 2010 in the season opening race for the IZOD-IndyCar Series season on the street circuit in Sao Paulo Brazil. Power got the lead in the closing laps from Ryan Hunter Reay who had a great race car all weekend and lead alot of laps on Sunday only to lose the race with a few minutes left to go. The race saw yellow flags, a rain delay and a scary accident with Mario Moraes and Marco Andretti in turn one on the first lap that wreck also collected Helio Castroneves, Scott Dixon and Takuma Sato making his Indycar debut coming from Formula One. The race became a timed event after a red flag for rain and they only completed 61 of the 75 scheduled laps. Franchitti who started from pole keeps the lead because he was on pole and restarted on lap 9. Alex LLoyd would hit pit lane for some sort of mechanical issue but would make it back out. Franchitti is still the leader at lap 15 but Milka Duno would spin on lap 22 that brought out a caution. After the restart on lap 29 Dan Wheldon would make contact with Alex Tagliani and he would hit Tony Kanaan causing him to spin he would go a lap down.

By lap 30 rain is starting to fall, Ana Beatriz spins in the rain drivers start to make there way to pit lane for the rain tires, Mario Romancini a rookie this year spins along with Danica Patrick and Alex LLoyd. With 35 laps completed the race goes to a red flag for a short delay and then becomes a timed event. Lap 45 Dario Franchitti leads on the restart after rain. At lap 49 Mario Romancini spins and hits the wall on and then on lap 50 Ryan Briscoe takes the lead under pit stops, that would'nt last long on lap 51 Ryan Hunter Reay in turn 1 but they battle on only to have Ryan Briscoe while leading crash into the tire barrier in turn 5 and handing the lead to Hunter Reay with Power sitting in third at the moment. A restart after the caution on lap 55 with just over six minutes left Will Power would calculate and make the right moves to get pass Ryan Hunter Reay to take the lead and set fast lap and then to victory in a comeback victory for Will himself and the Penske Verizon team after he had a terrible crash and broke his back at Sonoma last August.
