Poor, Poor David Beckham, Such a Sad Way to End a Dream

Akhil VyasMar 14, 2010

If there’s one man who deserved to go out on a high, it’s David Beckham. This could be the end of his career and certainly looks to be the end of his England career.

David Beckham has torn his Achilles tendon and will be out for between five to eight months. For a player who has given his all for England and certainly in the build up to this world cup, it must be a horrible feeling to know all the hard work has gone to waste.

Let’s not get this wrong, Becks came to Milan to keep fit and keep playing in preparation for the world cup. Becks has worked very hard on his fitness and was desperate to play in a forth world cup in a row. Becks is the only England player to score in three separate world cups and no one would have betted against him getting a forth separate world cup goal.

Becks has the best right foot in England and maybe the world. His experience is invaluable and his leadership is something England needed after all the scandals that have gone on this season.

The news will come as a big blow to Fabio and England as the right wing position has not been nailed down and there are big fitness doubts over the other contenders.

If this is the last we see of David Beckham in an England shirt, then this proves how unfair football can be. Becks has had his low moments, such as being sent off in the 98 world cup, However has bounced back and single handed grabbed England by the neck and took them safely through to the world cup in 2002 by beating Greece at Old Trafford.

Personally, I hope we see David Beckham back, but time is not on his side, at 34 years of age and with a serious injury, can David Beckham return to full fitness and be back to his best, if in his mind, the answer is no, then he may decide to call it a day.

What ever happens, most England, Manchester United and even Real Madrid fans will remember… There is only one David Beckham.
