In state rivals collide for the third time this season on Saturday night in Kansas City, when the Kansas State Wildcats (26-6, 18-8-1 ATS) and Kansas Jayhawks (31-2, 13-16-1 ATS) do battle. Though it already seems like the Jayhawks have wrapped up the #1 seed in the Midwest Bracket in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, the Wildcats are still clawing for position. It’s possible to believe, especially after big wins against Baylor and Oklahoma State in the L/2 days, that this could be the fourth team earning a slot on the #1 line.
Kansas has fallen behind in college basketball betting bashes against both Texas Tech and Texas A&M in the second half, but in both instances, it fired back and ended up posting double digit victories as if it just flipped a switch and turned on as a squad. This continues to be one of the most well-rounded teams in the nation on both ends of the court. Rock Chalk has the fifth best offense in the land at 82.1 points per game, and it is holding teams to just 37.8 percent shooting on the other end of the hardwood. Both marks are Top 5 in the country.
Both Gs Denis Clemente and Jacob Pullen lit up Baylor on Friday night, combining to score 50 points in the neutral court win and cover. Those two are a big part of the reason why the Wildcats are dropping 80.0 points per game on their foes this year. Even though their offensive numbers aren’t quite as impressive as their rivals, there’s no question that the team has the goods to keep up with Kansas. KSU has scored 80+ points in three straight games and six out of eight. In its L/5 wins, the Wildcats have only given up 64.8 points per game.
It’s been hard for KSU to get over the hump against the Jayhawks in recent years. You have to go back to 2008 to find the last time the Wildcats posted a SU win in this series, going 0-5 SU since that point. They’re also only 1-4 ATS in those five games, but that one cover did come at home this year in a narrow 81-79 overtime defeat.
