Oakland Raiders 2010 Mock NFL Draft. Day one.

big ROC Stockton, CAMar 12, 2010

1st Round:  DT Dan Williams, Tenn.  I know.  I know.  That's a bit of a reach right?  Well we've been neglecting our interior defensive line for a while now.  Williams, at 6'3" 329lbs, is bigger than Suh and McCoy yet his 40 time was just less than a tenth of a second slower.  He also pushed top G prospect Mike Iupati around at the Senior Bowl.  We need a DT that will be a disruptive force against the run.  He'd fill that void that we've had since . . . . yeah it's been that long.

2nd Round:  CB Devin McCourty, Rutgers.  We all know Al Davis is taking a DB at some point in the draft.  Devin is known as a physical CB and has the 4.4 speed and good size at 5'11" 196 lbs that Al loves.  He's solid in coverage and plays the run just as well.  He has blocked seven kicks for Rutgers including three last season.  He also averaged over 25 yards returning kicks and scored a touchdown last season.  Since he can play corner, return kicks, and block a kick fairly consistently I think he could be a productive rookie.

3rd Round:  G Jon Asamoah, Illinois.  Finally an O-lineman right.  He is known as one of those "nasty" guards who plays from snap to whistle.  He'd help bring back the dominant running game we had in '07 and '08.  He is a gym rat and has excellent practice habits.  He gets to the 2nd level and drives LBs into the ground.  He would be an upgrade over Cooper Carlisle and open big holes for Bush and McFadden.

3rd Round:  T Jared Veldheer, Hillsdale.  Good size at 6'8" 314 lbs.  Some scouting reports call him a physical freak because of his mobility.  He also was recognized as the best tackle in the Texas vs. Nation game.  He does need some work as he is a raw project right now but has as much potential as any tackle in the draft.  Developing a tackle drafted in the third makes way more sense than drafting Bruce Campbell in the first, who is raw and would be a project as well.

We'll get another 3rd round pick when Kirk Morrison signs with another team.  We'll find his replacement with that pick:

3rd Round: ILB Jamaar Chaney, Miss. State.  He was flying under the radar until the Senior Bowl where he was named Defensive MVP.  The 6'1" 245 pounder impressed at the combine with his 4.54 time in the 40.  He plays very well in space.  Never gets juked by elusive runners.  He doesn't have to come off the field on passing downs as he is very solid in coverage as well.  He led his team last season with 90 tackles.  He also had 2 sacks, 2 INTs, and 2 forced fumbles.

Well that is how I think it's going to go down on the first day of the NFL Draft.  What is your take?
