Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey: Dont Root For Anyone, Just Enjoy The Fight

Tyler CurtisMar 12, 2010

With the super fight commencing tomorrow this is the final piece in my five day long look at the fight. I have looked at both fighters, trainers, and what may happen if Manny wins. Today I am going to offer some advice that I hope some of you will take.

Every time someone watches a fight they root for one fighter. He may be your favorite fighter, you may hate the other fighter, you may like one fighters back story, or you may just like one fighters style.

There are plenty of reasons to root for a fighter but I am telling you don’t root for a fighter in the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey fight. Just sit back and enjoy this fight.

I know Pacquiao has far more fans than Clottey. For all you Pac backers out there try to just enjoy this fight.

I know when Kelly Pavlik got drubbed by Bernard Hopkins I could barely watch and I couldn’t enjoy Hopkins performance. To this day I cant watch that fight because I love Kelly so much.

I digress though, Pacquiao is one of the two best fighters of this generation and needs to be appreciated win or lose. I know his diehards are reading this and probably think this is garbage.

That may be the case but if he does lose and puts on a hell of a show, who cares? The guy is exciting, an all time great, and it seems he wont be around much longer.

All I am hoping for is a slugfest that will propel boxing back in the mainstream for a moment. If this fight is a good fight and Pacquiao loses than so be it.

I like Pacquiao far more than I like Clottey but I am throwing allegiances out and just hoping for a good fight. Even if it’s a slugfest and it ends in a draw (that would be disappointing though) who cares?

I am just trying enjoy the fight and enjoy the greatness that is Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao. You will not see many like him. He is all action, takes a lot of risks in who he fights, and most of all he loves his fans.

If you root for Pacquiao and he does lose just know that you are watching a ring legend and that he will be back. The point I want to get across is don’t let a Pacquiao loss ruin this fight for you.

My parting words are you can root for a fighter but don’t let their loss or bad performance ruin this fight for you. Know your watching an all time great do his thing and more importantly know that boxing is in the spotlight for the briefest of moments again.

Lean back sip your Tecate and know that the No. 1 pound for pound fighter in the world is gracing your TV screen. Win or lose, he is an exciting fighter and I know tomorrow night will be no different.
