AFRICAN FOOTBALLER AWARD 2009: WRONG CHOICE?

In truth, i could tell days ago that CAF would as usual make a huge mistake with their choice of the best player award. It is not unwise to expect that Collective of power hungry individuals who in all sincerity do not represent the interest of the greater number of people in their individual countries.

In contention for this award was Micheal Essien, Samuel Eto, and Didier Drogba. The best of the rest in Africa and they represent heroes for a continent that hosts it's first World Cup in 2010, so it's only right that the one adjudged as it's best, is true that.

For the record Essien and Drogba who both play for Chelsea, won the F.A Cup in England in the year in consideration, while Samuel Eto, won it all (maybe not all!!!). He took home the UEFA Champions League, La Liga title, Copa Del Ray, and was the second highest goalscorer in Spain (only one goal behind the eventual winner). On an even scale, all three led their various National teams to picking up a World Cup ticket for South Africa 2010, still the fact that Eto on the  14th of February 2009, he scored his 99th and his 100th league goals for Barcelona in a 2-2 draw with Real Betis. Eto'o scored his 30th goal of the 2008-09 season in a La Liga match against Real Valladolid. The game ended 1-0 and meant that Barcelona kept a 6 point lead over Real Madrid in the league. He also scored against Villarreal CF in the game that put Barcelona one point away from lifting the 2008-09 La Liga and ultimately was a goalscorer in the final of the Champions League final (the only man to score in two finals in modern football history) stands him out. Only the inexplicable act of Barcelona selling him on to Inter Milan, stopped him from being a huge part of taking along with the rest of the team the UEFA Super Cup, Spanish Super Cup and the World Club Cup.

I would refrain from passing judgment, but leave the reader to arrive at a conclusion on, who should be at present the African Footballer of the year 2010!!!
