Brian Moynihan: The Greatest High School Pitcher Ever?

j porterMar 10, 2010

Every once in a generation is there an athlete who's remarkable talent transcends all previous notions on what the human body is capable of, that talent ladies and gentlemen is Brian Moynihan.

What comes to mind when Moynihan's name rolls off the tongue? "Raw talent, unheralded ability for a left-handed pitcher at such a young age" beams Phillipe D’Amico a professional scout for the former AA affiliate Cheshire Outlaws “Who knows where this kid could end up a few years down the road, one thing could be certain though, if he lives up to his vast potential we could be seeing a lot of history books being rewritten.”  Standing at a cool 6’5” 225 with a build that resembles an NFL linebacker instead of a high school pitcher Moynihan certainly is impressive if not intimidating in person.  This intimidation factor is multiplied to the nth degree when he is standing 60 feet 6 inches away from the plate inflicting such fear into hitters hearts that it seems at times that they’ve already struck out before even setting foot within the chalk outlines of the batters box.

Moynihan has been clocked at various showcases and invitation only college “clinics” to have a fastball ranging around 94-96 mph which he pairs with a knee-buckling circle-change that he uses deep in counts to “pull the string” on hitters set on catching up to his sizzling heater.  The fact that Brian has also has added a slider that seems to almost fall off a table mid-air to his already exceptional repertoire is simply unfair.

He is already drawing comparisons to the late great Sandy Koufax and has a delivery similar to a young Doc Gooden.  With all the hype surrounding fellow Fairfield County phenom prospect Jason Gentile it is easy for Moynihan to simply fall through the cracks but the relative obscurity that Moynihan suffers from is soon about to change, he is primed to simply set on fire the competition he will face this season as a captain and the soul of the Westhill High School baseball squad.  Says M. Curtis Williams former Director of New England Scouting Operations (DNESO) for the Montreal Expos Moynihan is the real deal, “A definite early round steal, his potential has no ceilings and his sign-ability is off the charts for a high school pitcher.”

Look out Bryce Harper, move over Jason Gentile, there is a new sheriff in town, baseball fans all over are in for a treat watching this kid perform this season.
