Why is it so hard for us to accept the kids among the fans?

Tobias LuxMar 9, 2010

I grew into Wrestling at the time, that is considered one of the worst in recent history. As the eleven years old, I was then, I started watching in early 95. You will hardly find an adult fan, no matter, if he watched before the so called Attitude era or not, who won't call this a time of cheesy and childish non- entertainment, with poor, cartoonish gimmicks like Duke "The Dumpster" Droese, Bob "Spark Plug" Holly, "The Portugeasan Manowar" Aldo Montoya and (face) Doink. I saw the rise of the Dungeon of Doom as well as a "kiss my foot"-match at KOTR.
And I was all into it. I loved it and crossed my fingers for every face to win, mark, that I was (he, who never was, shall throw the first stone).
I wouldn't have liked the much praised attitude then, and still today, I'm not really a fan of excessive bloodshed and have no idea, what's the use of a mixture of cheerleaders and table dancers at a wrestling show. But many, who grew into wrestling in a rather kid friendly environment surely enjoyed it, when they and the programme got older.

Today, we're rather approaching child friendliness again, and it's heavily critiziced among the internet fan community. If you're looking for positive feedback, just point out, that "PG sucks" and seemingly everyone will confirm. The years around 2000 become some kind of myth, the glorified "time, when everything was better". Just believe it, all cool kids say so.
But still, week by week, we get to see children, who mark out, when the themes of Cena or Rey Rey hit, who buy Hornswoggle-DX-shirts... How dare they, after we know so much better?
We're growing old, realizing in pain, that the world doesn't turn around us, and neither does WWE. We are among the target groups, but by far not the only one. So, we can either mourn about it and curse the rating, or we accept the segments, that are not aimed on us, as an investment into the further future, making new fans grow into it. I prefer the latter.
The kids love it; good for them, and after all good for us too, as it keeps the show alive.

And honestly, if you were ten, twenty or how many years younger, wouldn't you do the "You can't see me" wave as well (Okay, I wouldn't, but that's because this gesture is an insult in Germany ;-) )?
