Fantasy Baseball: Value Batting Average Options

Ryan LesterMar 8, 2010

Joe Mauer and Ichiro got gobbled up. Don’t fret, there are still plenty of value hitters to help you post a stellar batting average.

Catcher
Yadier Molina – He has hit .304 and .293 in his past two seasons.

First Base
Todd Helton–He’s not the player he once was, but the dude can still hit at a very nice clip.

Nick Johnson–He should do well in the Yankees’ stacked lineup. This very well could be his first .300 season. He just needs to stay healthy.

James Loney –He won’t give you any power, but expect an average around .300

Second Base
Placido Polanco–Has 2B eligibility, but will play 3rd for the Phillies. He’s a career .303 hitter.

Martin Prado–Has a career .307 average in 258 games. Has 3B eligibility (41 games) in most leagues and 1B eligibility (17 games) in some leagues.

Skip Schumkaer–He’s hit .307 over the past 2.5 years.

Third Base
Michael Young–Hit .322 last year for Texas. Career .302 hitter.

Polanco and Prado have 3B eligibility.

Shortstop
Erick Aybar–Hit .312 last year with the Halos. Should hit around .300 again.

Yunel Escobar –Don’t overlook him for lack of speed. The guy can really hit.

Cristian Guzman–Should gain 2B eligibility at some point. Has hit .305 for Washington since 2007.

Outfield
Julio Borbon–Hit .312 in his brief stint with the Rangers. Has the speed to hit .300 again.

Chris Coghlan–I don’t believe the .321 he hit last year, I do believe he’ll reach .300 again.

Nyjer Morgan–He won’t give you HRs, but he will give you around a .300 average with a bunch of runs and SBs.

Magglio Ordonez–Age has not caught up with him. His power disappeared last year, but he’s a career .312 hitter.

Juan Pierre–He’s got a starting gig back. Look for the .301 career hitter to do well with the White Sox.

Denard Span–Really took off for the Twins last year once they put the brakes on the Carlos Gomez experiment.
