Kurt Busch Wins! Carl Edwards Parked? Oh What a Wonderful Day

Shaun YoungMar 7, 2010

So it is not a secret that many NASCAR drivers do not like Penske Racing's Brad Keselowski, with Carl Edwards being one of them. I suppose it all goes back to last year's spring race at Talladega, where...depending on your view of things, either Carl Edwards tried to come down in front of Brad Keselowski, or Keselowski hit Carl Edwards. Personally, I do not care for either fellow; but what ensued was one of the year's shocking moments. Flight 99 from the apron to the fence is now boarding. Flash through the season; and drivers have voiced their displeasure with Brad Keselowski, so is it a surprise that he was involved in another issue? No, I suppose it isn't; but the result sure was.

Earlier on lap 39, the Edwards & Keselowski comedy hour was in full force. Again. depending on your view, Edwards either came down or Keselowski did not give any room. The result was Edwards bumping into Joey Logano; and ends up in the wall. On lap 42, Edwards was pushed into the garage; and complains about Keselowski. Seriously Carl...who hasn't? On lap 190, Mr. Ed finally comes out of the garage, 149 laps down.

On lap 322, Keselowski is loose coming off turn four; and drifts in front of Carl Edwards, which caused Edwards to more or less check up so he does not him him. Ironic?, because on the next lap...literally, just before both drivers cross the line, Carl taps Brad; and sends him flying in the air. Keselowski lands close to turn one, with a crushed A-Frame. Obviously the caution is out; and he comes out of the car (what's left of it), looking dazed. I was laughing. Not in a "ha ha, he took out Keselowski," more of a "ha ha ha, boy is Carl going to get it!"

Well he got it all right. NASCAR parked Carl Edwards for the rest of the race. I have not seen them do that in a while now. Safe to say the right decision was made by parking Edwards. In the garage, FOX Sports reporter Dick Berggren interviewed the driver of the number 99, who tap danced around the question. What a wonderful way to admit you did something stupid, reckless, and downright pathetic without saying yes. He said that flipping Keselowski was completely unintended/unexpected. Maybe so; but the fact of the matter is, he did what he set out to do. Find Keselowski and wreck him.

Well congraulations Carl, I now dub you a hypocrite. This coming from the same driver, who said after his wreck at Talladega that we are going to end up killing or injuring someone if we don't change the way we drive. Well you almost did that today.

Kurt Busch won today's race; and Kevin Harvick is still number one in points. The boys have off next week, then it is off to Bristol, Tennessee to the bullring. It is kind of weird. NASCAR bans practice to "save money," yet there is no problem going from Daytona to Fontana, then Vegas and to Atlanta. Weird.
