Jessy MorrisMar 6, 2010

Here we are, at the finals of the middleweight tournament. Before we get the finals underway, let's see what happened in the semi-finals:

Vitor Belfort defeated Demian Maia by a surprising 11-2 vote

It seems that the UFC 109 fight didn't convince a lot of people, as Nate Marquardt advances against Chael Sonnen by a 8-5 vote.

Final Fight: Vitor Belfort vs. Nate Marquardt

After defeating Rich Franklin at UFC 103, a lot of fans thought that Vitor Belfort should have to fight Nate Marquardt before getting a shot at Anderson Silva. That was not to be as it was announced that Belfort would fight Silva for the title next.

Now, we all know that due to injury, that fight won't take place right now. This could potentially leave an opening for an eventual fight between Belfort and Marquardt.

This is a very intriguing fight. Both guys have very good stand-up skills and a pretty good ground game to accompany that. It's quite hard to say who would have the advantage where.

Both men have knocked out some top competition in the past and both men are known for ending fights with some of the best combinations in MMA.

The ground game would also be interesting, as Nate is very skilled on the ground and Vitor is a black belt in BJJ, even though he hasn't showed it much.

It's a tough fight to predict, but who wins the middleweight tournament?

Next week, the light-heavyweight tournament begins. With names like Rashad Evans, Rampage Jackson, Forrest Griffin, and Shogun Rua, it should be a star-studded tournament for sure.

The winner of the middleweight tournament will also be announced, so be sure to check that.
