Rumors have been buzzing about Mike Swick facing Matt Serra on the April 17 UFC card. But today, via Twitter, Swick dispelled those rumors, saying that he has other issues to worry about first.
"Not fighting Serra guys. Most likely having surgery soon," Swick wrote in response to a question about next month's event. "Dr appt on Mon. to figure out how they are going to fix my arm which is most certainly only w/surgery. MRI results were pretty bad."
Swick was offered a fight against Serra, but was forced to turn it down due to the lack of mobility in his arm, saying that the only way he would be able to straighten his arm is if he had underwent surgery.
"I'm sure it's going to be along the lines as the first time I had surgery on my right arm," Swick told MMAJunkie.com today. "I don't remember how long that was, but I do know that I started back too soon and it slowed down the healing process... I'm going to have to be really smart about it, because I want to fight as soon as I can. The sooner I can fight, the better it is for me."
The Swick vs. Serra fight was reportedly being considered as the co-main event for the unannounced April 17 card. This card, which will be live on Spike TV, was recently put into place to counter-program Strikeforce's "Nashville" card, which will air live on CBS on the same day.
Sitting with a two-fight losing streak, Swick still holds a 14-4 MMA record, and will look to make a winning comeback when he is fit and healthy. Currently, there has been no opponent or upcoming fight named for him.
