Bret Hart: Giving the WWE Unieverse what we want, so give him a Break!
Since Bret Hart returned to the WWE, he has made several appearances on RAW, all but one of which have come after the Royal Rumble. They have been a bit hit and miss, with some good promo work and emotion, and certain segments where the Hitman has looked a bit past his best.
This is probably best explained by the fact that he is past his best. For God sake, the guy had a career ending concussion, followed by a huge stroke. Even the fact that he is walking is a minor miracle. As a result of his diminished abilities, I have seen several articles spring up all over the internet questioning him, ridiculing him and insulting both Bret and the WWE. I take great issue with this.
I won't even address those who expect him to be able to perform like a 30 something thoroughbred, those peoples stupidity speaks for itself. However, those who are coming out with comments like 'why is he tarnishing his legacy', 'why perform at all if he isn't able to', or the completely ridiculous 'he wasn't ever that good anyway' really are grating on me. One person actually exclaimed that Hogan and HBK had in fact carried Bret in the WWE, perhaps the most alarming comment I've ever seen on a Wrestling discussion. The guy is, as far as I and millions of others are concerned, the greatest entertainer the WWE have ever had. An actual wrestler as opposed to just a ballerina, he is responsible for some of the greatest story lines, some of the greatest matches and is a huge part of WWE not going under and ceasing to exist in the 90's when they were financially challenged. For this alone the guy needs to be respected, and so must his decisions.
That argument only addresses those who question his past glories admittedly. However, for those of you who think that his incapability to deliver an angle the way he used to, incapability to fight the way he used to, takes away from the entertainment he is providing, you are wrong. He had such an impact on the industry, was destroyed in such a horrible way, that it has lingered not only within him but also within all his fans, and I can only speak for myself and those that I know personally, but as far as I'm concerned just watching Bret perform is a joy regardless of the quality, because I am watching him right the wrongs of the past, and at Wrestlemania I, and others, are only interested in seeing him beat McMahon and get his honourable send off. It doesn't need to be a good fight, it doesn't need to do anything spectacular, it doesn't need to be believable. It just needs to be Bret beating Vince, hopefully with a Sharpshooter. That's all we're interested in, getting to the climax. It doesn't matter how we get there, it will still be just as sweet to see Bret get his retribution.
Bret Hart will forever be the Best there is, the Best there was, and the Best there ever will be. He's already proven everything when he was in his prime. All he has to do now is give his fans what they want, and that means doing exactly what we all know is coming at Wrestlemania. Support the man, enjoy the fact that he is getting rid of some demons, and find something real to complain about, because Brets return is nothing but a good thing.
