Junior Class Stars for Boston College on Senior Night in Chestnut Hill

Paul SeaverMar 4, 2010

For the second straight season, Boston College commenced senior night with the wishing off of only one senior.

Last season, it was the exceptional career of Tyrese Rice, this year it was Tyler Roche.

Roche logged only four points in 20 minutes in his final game at Conte Forum, but the Eagles did pick up a victory over visiting Virginia (14-14, 5-10).

The Cavaliers, who have free fallen in the ACC after a hot start, could not slow down the junior class featured by Boston College last night.

Corey Raji led the way with 18 points and nine rebounds in the win, aided by classmates Joe Trapani (14 points), and Rakim Sanders (11 points).

For Virginia, their loss was their eighth in a row, while the Eagles picked up their third win in their last four games.

BC got off to a quick 13-2 start in the ball game and never looked back, leading much of the second half by double digits, before eventually closing things out with a 68-55 win.

For the Eagles, they now improve to 15-14 overall and 6-9 in the ACC.

Boston College converted on 15 of 18 free throws in the game, using the advantage to build their lead, while Dallas Elmore and Evan Ravenel each contributed off the bench with six and seven points, respectively.

Head coach Al Skinner has found recent success in moving Reggie Jackson to the point guard position. Allowing for Trapani, Sanders, and Raji to all be on the court, along with Jackson more often has given the Eagles an improved offense threat, as well as a strong height advantage on the perimeter.

Jackson was held to only four points last night, but found other ways to contribute with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. BC is now 3-1 since making the switch to Jackson at the point.

Boston College (15-14, 6-9) will wrap up their regular season on the road at North Carolina State (16-14, 4-11) on Saturday at 2 pm.
