Toronto Maple Leafs: How Bad Is Bad?

After the dust settled from the NHL's latest installment of the 'Trade Deadline', and after the vultures stopped picking apart what was left of the withering Maple Leafs carcass, one couldn't help but notice how shockingly thin the Buds have been left up front.

Going into tonight's game against the Boston Bruins, the Leafs will be fielding a team that can be best described as 'pathetic'. With a line-up that boasts three forwards with more than 20 points, and a grand total of five forwards who have eclipsed the 10 point mark, the Leafs have sunk to an entirely new low that even the most optimistic of fans couldn't have imagined would be possible.

Throughout his tenure as Leafs GM, Brian Burke has made it abundantly clear that he likes to build his team, "from the net out." The fact that the Leafs will dress six forwards tonight with 2 goals or less on the season, however, is absolutely inexcusable.

Those who thought that the Leafs would address some of their offensive needs yesterday, were sorely mistaken. Apparently Burke left his bartering skills, along with his brain in Anaheim, as the greatest asset (as he likes to describe them) that he received was a 4th round draft pick.

Brian Burke joked yesterday that he wasn't interested in doing a, "full team rebuild". The twisted part about this statement though, is that Burke really wasn't trying to be humorous; he was dead serious.

Some scoring, Brian. Some hitting, Brian. Some fighting, Brian. Give me something to cheer about. At least Vesa Toskala was hilarious to watch.
