Shawn Michaels is the Man
We are a few short weeks away from Wrestlemania XXVI and the impending defeat of either the legend and career that of Shawn Michaels, or the streak of The Undertaker. This storyline began in November. That means it's been five months for two of the greatest superstars in WWE history to book, plan, spot, plot, and come up with a finish to a wrestling match at the grandest stages of them all.
Can somebody say Classic part two?
"I will give you a show, like you have never ever seen before. Why? Because I can."
I'm sure any wrestling fanatic knows whose mouth has uttered these words. Shawn Michaels has never once failed to give the fans their money's worth. He is everything he claims to be. The Showstopper. The Icon. The Main Event. Mr. Wrestlemania. Does anybody argue with this?
Yes, his career singles record at Wrestlemania is far from impressive. He's 5-8 at Wrestlemania. However, it isn't because of wins and losses that Shawn gets to call himself 'Mr. Wrestlemania'. It's his performances. Since being a Main Event caliber wrestler, he has stolen every single Wrestlemania he's been a part of. Yes, even the one where he was practically crippled and on a countless number of pain killers (WM14).
Though not his greatest performance that night in Boston against Stone Cold, he still was able to steal the show. He's absolutely carried John Cena and Vince McMahon to great Mania matches. HBK delivers. It should be people like Cena, Orton, Triple H, Kingston, Jericho, or Edge that have the oppurtunity to steal the show at this year's event. However, all of them know how to drop the ball and deliver three star matches.
Shawn only deals with the 4-5 stars.
This brings me to this event on March 28th in Phoenix, Arizona. Who here is really buying this PPV because of Cena-Batista? Or who here really cares about Triple H-Sheamus? Who here besides Canada cares about Hart-Mcmahon? It's Shawn Michaels-The Undertaker that we care about this year.
Shawn Michaels will single handedly sell thousands of PPV buys this year because of his mic skills, obsession, and actions towards The Undertaker these past few months. If the deadman was facing anybody else at this year's event, and HBK wasn't on the card, there would be a significant drop in PPV buys. Shawn has been working this angle since last year.
Every once in a while, The Undertaker will come out, groan, make his eyes turn white, and speak a line or two to advance the storyline. But it's Michaels that is delivering: Wrestlemania 10,11,12,14,19,20,21,22,23,24,25. Every single one of those events, Shawn Michaels is the single most lasting memory. Michaels/Deisel, Michaels/Ramon, Michaels/Hart, Michaels/Austin, Michaels/Jericho, Michaels/Benoit/HHH, Michaels/Angle, Michaels/Mcmahon, Michaels/Cena, Michaels/Flair, Michaels/Undertaker.
This year will be no different.
This match should be the main event, because a great majority of breathless/emotionless/exhausted people will be leaving the stadium when Cena comes out.
I'm going to share a few thoughts on the possible outcome of this match. There is no way Michaels loses cleanly to the Undertaker two years in a row. I can't see a draw like many have speculated, because, well let's face it... 17-0-1 isn't keeping the streak intact.
I believe that Michaels will have the match won when Triple H comes running down to the ring, and pedigrees HBK. The Undertaker will get the pin, and HBK's career will be 'over'. However, somewhere down the line, Shawn appears and maybe even shocks the world at next year's Rumble ala Edge.
I'm sure Triple H will be the champ. by then, and I see Shawn winning the rumble, and going on to face The Game at Wrestlemania 27 for the gold. Shawn has given his body, mind, and spirit to this business. He deserves to go out on top.
That's my fairy tale ending for Mr. Wrestlemania.
