Seniors Milbourne, Hayes & Vasquez Last Stand Was Over Duke, 79-72

It was Senior Night at the University of Maryland and the Terps Landon Milbourne, Greivis Vasquez and Eric Hayes, along with their 17,950 screeming fans would like nothing better then to see their last home game be a victory over the Duke Blue Devils.

The trio won't have to worry about that anymore.  On Tuesday the Maryland Terps did what do one at the beginning of the season could have perdicted.  The beat the visiting Blue Devils, 79-72, and moved into a first place tied for the ACC Regular Season.  The Terps are now 22-7 and 12-3 in the ACC.  Duke now stands 25-5 and 12-3 in the ACC.

Before the game Milbourne, Vasquez and Hayes were escorted on the court by their parents to be recognized for their acheivements and to thanks the fans.  Well, the three may not have any more opportunities to play at Comcast Center, but they will always be remember for their thrilling victory that had the fans storming the court to celebrate.

Maryland jumped out to a quick lead, but Duke responded with a run of their own to close the gap to 40-38 at the half.

The game came down to the final minutes.  The game begin to swing towards Maryland after a dunk from Milbourne, a 3 pointer from Adrian Bowie and two baskets by Vasquez, one of which was a running right hander  with seconds to go that pretty much sealed the deal.

The difference in the game was the fact that the Terps actually out rebounded the Blue Devils, 36-35.  The also out shot Duke 17-19 from the free line for 89.5 %, compared to the Blue Devils 10-16 for only 62.5%.  Maryland also went 28-56 from the field for 50%, while their opponents wre 26-66 for only 39%. 

Vasquez tallied 20 points, Jordan Williams had 15 and 11 rebounds, Hayes finished with 13, and Sean Mosley 11. 

Nolan Smith led Duke with 20, Jon Scheyer scored 19 and Kyle Singler had 14.

It's the ACC Baby and now teams must finally "Fear The Turtle"
