5 WWE Releases Since Last Week: More On The Way?

Even in these times Vincent Kennedy McMahon needs to save money, and there's one way he can do that. By releasing WWE superstars, divas, and even referees.

Since last week Maria, Paul Burchill, Shane Helms, Charlie Haas, and referee Scott Armstrong were all released by the WWE.

WWE Diva Maria was released at somewhat of an ironic time. Her 90-day no-compete clause will be up just about the time the next season of Celebrity Apprentice is over. Her release came because WWE and her could not agree on the status of her career.

Shane Helms' most recent run with the WWE began in 2008. Since that time he served as a wrestler along with a backstage interviewer. Chris Jericho and Helms were arrested in late January for public intoxication, which was likely the reason for his release.

Paul Burchill has been with WWE since 2005 and was a part of the ECW brand, before NXT took over.

Charlie Haas has been in and out of WWE throughout his whole career and finished his last stint with the Smackdown brand.

Here are the championship and accomplishments each wreslter had over their career:

Shane Helms 

• WWF European Championship (1 time)
• WWE Cruiserweight Championship (2 times)
• WWE/World Tag Team Championships (2 times)
• WWF Hardcore Championship (1 time)
• He was ranked the #15 singles wrestler in 2003 in the PWI 500. 

Paul Burchill

• He never had any championships, but was rated #123 of the PWI 500 wrestlers in 2009. 

Charlie Haas

• WWE Tag Team Champion (3 times)
• PWI Tag Team of the Year in 2003.
• Ranked #25 on the PWI 500 in 2003.
• Won the Slammy Award for the Best Impersonation in 2009. 

Maria

• Ranked #29 on the PWI 50 female wrestlers in 2008.
• Won the Slammy Award for Diva of the Year in 2009. 

These four along with referee Scott Armstrong were all released on February 26, 2010. There are also expected to be two or three more releases coming over the next few weeks. We will just have to wait and see what happens.
