CM Punk's Straight Edge Society Should Become a Super Heel Stable
Smackdown has a heel of a problem: There are too many faces. Chris Jericho has established himself as the undisputed No. 1 heel on Smackdown. CM Punk is the No. 2 heel, and below that, the ranks of the bad guys get pretty thin.
Though the road to Wrestlemania is filled with interesting feuds and great matchups, there's going to be a problem after the Big Show. The draft won't help because other than Batista and Sheamus, Raw doesn't have many high profile heels either.
So what can the WWE do? Kane is no longer scary, Drew McIntyre is not that over. They could push Big Show, or maybe find generic monster No. 43,454 and give whoever he is a push.
But there's a much better route. One that would be a gold mine of potential feuds and angles for a year or more.
Turn the Straight Edge Society into a mega heel faction.
CM Punk, Luke Gallows, and Serena are already over. Punk draws tons of heat with his messiah like promo's in the middle of high profile matches. This could be taken a step forward, several steps forward in fact.
The Straight Edge Society could be the next McMahon-Helmsley Faction, or it could be the Ministry of Darkness meets Right to Censor. The various elements of the SES could have multiple fueds with babyface ranging from the middle to upper card. Punk himself could feud with guys like Edge, Mysterio, and the Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship.
So who would join this new faction? Ezekiel Jackson is actually one of the first names to come to mind. The last ECW champion could team with Gallows or even help Punk decimate some helpless smaller men for fun.
There are other guys out there, who without a mouth piece or some sort of character direction, stand to lose pushes or any heat they've gained in the past. Maybe Jesse could join his former partner Luke Gallows (aka Festus) in the group. William Regal also fits the straight edge bill. Perhaps Zack Ryder or Vladimir Kozlov could hitch onto the group.
There are even some babyfaces that could gain an incredible amount of heat by joining the group. I could see a stern Evan Bourne in the group.
Or even better, R-truth, the former rapper turned straight edge preacher.
The point is, super heel groups have been few and far between over the past several years. The Straight Edge Society has potential far beyond fighting Rey Mysterio or the unified tag team champions. I see 10 guys, walking to the ring at the beginning of Smackdown, lecturing the crowd and the WWE superstars about their decadent ways.
Jobbers could become midcarders, midcarders could become stars. The WWE needs straight edge, and CM Punk could be the biggest heel of the decade.
