"I'm constantly improving and that is one of the biggest things I need to focus on. I'm always going to be happy when if I wake up and know that I could kick yesterday's Jon Fitch's ass. If I keep progressing that title will be mine eventually... Georges St. Pierre is elite. He is the top dog. You don't really have to explain how good he is. You don't have the kind of record he has and get to where he is without being the best. However, I've made huge improvement in my last year of training. I think I'm at the point where I can technically matchup with him and I think I can beat him. I think right now I'm a better fighter than him. I'm just waiting for the opportunity to prove it."  - Jon Fitch to Profighting-fans.com

UFC welterweight Jon Fitch is already thinking of another match up with champion Georges St. Pierre. Nineteen months ago, their bout earned "Fight of the Night" honors - but Fitch still walked away with a loss.

Much improved, the American fighter is ready to step back into the Octagon against St. Pierre to prove that he can beat him. Fitch is one of the top contenders for the welterweight belt, and expressed slight frustration that Hardy has the next title shot. While Fitch said that he likes Hardy and thinks highly of him as a fighter, he said that "it's a slap in the face to the guys who have put in eight to 10 fights in the UFC and are getting passed over."

But he still believes he will get a title shot in the future, and will challenge St. Pierre. In regards to his first match up with the Canadian, the AKA student said that he had the wrong strategy, trying to go for too much and trying to end the fight quickly.

Before Fitch takes another step closer to the number one title contention spot, he will have to face Thiago Alves. Their upcoming fight at UFC 111 on March 27 will be a rematch of their 2006 Ultimate Fight Night 5 bout, where Fitch ended the fight via second-round KO. While Alves had the last title shot (against St. Pierre at UFC 100), if Fitch wins this bout, he could potentially become the next man in line after Hardy.
