As Predictable As Formula 1: Jimmie Wins Another

Brian westMar 1, 2010

They say the only sure things in life are death and taxes. I'm gonna add a new one.

Jimmie Johnson is gonna win races.

If his last two starts are any indicator, Jimmie Johnson is going to win ALOT of them. Yesterday at LVMS, Jimmie, Chad and the rest of #48 Kobalt Tools Team, went All-In.

Johnson didn't have the car to beat. That belonged to his teammate, and Co-Owner, Jeff Gordon. The #24 PepsiMax team had this one locked up, leading 219 of the scheduled 267 laps. A late caution forced the hand of the leaders, and pit stratagy determined the outcome.

Jeff Gordon and Steve Letarte decided on two tires, as did Saturday's Nationwide winner, Kevin Harvick. That decision put Gordon and Harvick out behind Clint Bowyer, who chose not to pit. Chad Knaus decided that four new Goodyears was the way to go, and they came back out in fourth place.

When the green flag flew, Clint and his #33 RCR Chevy was a sitting duck. Split by Gordon and Johnson, Bowyer managed to hold on to a top 10 finish. The #24 was able to hold off his HMS teammate until Jimmie made his move with 17 laps to go.

Kevin Harvick managed to get by Gordon and finish in second, the same result as a week ago.

This second place, allowed Harvick and the #29 Team to hang onto the SPRINT Cup Points lead they took over last week. As for the rest of the Hendricks cars, they took three of the top five places. Only Dale Jr. finished out side the top 10.

Rick Hendrick was going to do "whatever it takes"  to help the #88 team improve. It sounded like they were going in the right direction, but somewhere along the way the National Guard Chevy faltered. Same old frustration for Jr. and his shrinking legion of fans.

Las Vegas is usually a good place to come and have some fun, do a little gambling, and maybe take the house for a few Benjamins'. If your Jimmie Johnson, it's also a good place to win a fourth Championship Belt.

The sad part is " What Happened in Vegas " , Won't " Stay in Vegas "

The #48 Team gets to race again next week.
