Victory at Stoke Makes Arsenal the Side Most Likely To Win the Title

Kush SharmaFeb 27, 2010

During Arsenal's back to back losses to Manchester United and Chelsea , early February had provided the perfect fodder for the media , the rivals and also the fickle minded Arsenal fans to write the team off and project an image of impending doom and chaos in North London.

This is exactly when i wrote my first article here: "Why Arsenal Are The Favourites to Win the Premiership," where i foresaw the events that have now made Arsenal come within three points of Chelsea just 20 days after the Premiership was "declared" a two-horse race.

Two-horse race? You're having a laugh.

The basis of my argument at that time, the easy run-in of games for Arsenal and equally tougher ones for their rivals, is now suddenly finding weight amongst our "experts."

And now as expected, no time is being wasted in declaring Arsenal as the most likely champions, IF they win ALL their remaining games.

Now there is a critical flaw in this argument, and that is that it is complete and utter nonsense.

Arsenal DON'T HAVE to win ALL their remaining matches, just most of them, and that is very likely.

And if there was any doubt about the character that Wenger's young guns possess, then it's surely been wiped out after a highly emotional victory at the Britannia stadium yesterday evening.

After enduring the horror of seeing their team-mate and friend lying on the floor, his broken lower leg almost dangling from his knee, seeing your team-mates in tears and holding their heads, few teams would have had the courage to go on and clinch a victory in a match, where it was 11 against 11 only after Shawcross was sent off.

Most people who saw the match would get my point, because if maybe the referee was a little less biased, he would have awarded Arsenal what was a stonewall penalty, when Aaron Ramsey was taken down in the box

And then who knows, maybe the events that could have followed would have seen the 19 year old Welsh walk off the pitch on both his legs.

Alex Song will have to miss the next two games because of a joke of a decision by the referee, but that probably should not stop Arsenal from grabbing maximum points against Burnley and Hull city

Meanwhile, Arsenal would be hoping that Chelsea and United slip up once more and knowing that the two still have to face each other, points dropped in any other games can in one way be looked as a bit of a bonus

Yesterday's game should also provide fresh impetus to Arsenal's hopes in turning around their Champion League tie against Porto next Tuesday

If Wenger's men were to go on to win the season from here, it would be because of the character displayed in games like yesterday's

Personally, I don't think either of Chelsea or United would have won if they had played this game instead of us

As we get set to witness the most enthralling finish to a season ever, Arsenal can pat themselves for never giving in and rising in the face of adversity every time they were written off.

And if they at all needed another reason to fire themselves up to go all the way, then the injury to "RAMBO" has provided just that.

At the end of the Stoke game, a highly emotional Arsenal side got into a huddle, as if to send out the message: "You can hurt us , but you can't stop us.... Rambo , we're going to do this for you."
