Who Will Dethrone Anderson Silva?

Joshua BoykenFeb 27, 2010

The undefeated, UFC middlewieght champion, has done it all. He has destroyed fighters in the Light- Heavyweight division, and has beatdown every man in his own division. Although, he has been put in tough fights in his division, against Travis Lutter, Dan Henderson, and Rich Franklin's second fight was close until he got rocked.

Anderson has appeared unbeatable, as if no one stood a chance once they stepped in the octagon with him, no matter the training they did. He is one of the greatest fighters to ever live, and is one of the best pound for pound fighters today.

He is ten and oh in the UFC, he fought Rich Franklin for the middleweight championship, immediately following his destruction of Chris Leben. Silva has fired off them two wins with eight others over fighters like, Rich Franklin again, Dan Henderson, Nate Marquardt, Patrick Cote, and going to light heavyweight with knockout wins over Forrest Griffin and James Irvin.

Who can beat "The Spider"?

Patrick Cote : Next fight against Alan Belcher at UFC 113 (First since 2008)

His last fight was against Anderson Silva, where he fought him to three rounds. He landed wrong on his knee, and the fight was forced to be stopped. Silva did not actually win, Cote beat himself.

Cote has stated in interviews since then, that if he got a rematch he was confident he would win. Although, in the first fight, he was not winning by any means.

Winner : Anderson Silva UD (Anderson was really never close to finishing it in the first fight, so I'll give a decision victory for him)

Demien Maia : Next fight Anderson Silva (Vitor Belfort pulled out recently)

Demien fought a strong wrestler, Dan Miller, his last fight. He won a easy unaminous decision. Very soon after the victory he was called upon for a fight with the champ. The call included that Vitor Belfrot had to pull out of the fight, and he was next in line. Chael Sonnen was unable due to injuries, and same probably goes for Nate Marquardt.

Demien has one chance and that is by triangle, if Anderson has a moment of insanity and takes him down. Demien can submit anyone in the game, but he cannot strike with the best (Nate Marquardt). Maia has to find a way to get it to the ground.

Winner : Anderson Silva TKO 1st (He'll never get it to the ground, the fight will end late into the first)

Vitor Belfort : After pulling out of a fight with Silva, he does not have a fight planned.

His last fight he took out a good fighter in Rich Franklin. This brought the fans back on his side, and they began hoping for an early title shot. Despite my disagreement, the fight was put together. Vitor later pulled out and is now not going to fight with Anderson, its a good thing.

Vitor could not be able to jump on Anderson Silva, which is a very good counter striker. Anderson is no Rich Franklin when it comes to striking, they are very different fighters on their feet. Anderson would pick him apart until he fell apart.

Winner : Anderson Silva TKO 2nd (He would beat on him in the first pretty bad, and then put him away in the middle of the second)

Nate Marquardt - Next fight has not yet been scheduled (Maybe Vitor?)

Nate was in a very good fight with Chael, even catching Chael in some very tough spots. A very bloody a fight, it was a fight any fight fan would like to watch. Nate came up short, dropping all chances at a title shot on his next fight.

There is only one thing harder than getting a title shot, and that is getting another title shot. Nate has been beating everyone since his lost, but still doesn't get the shot, and not he won't for another two or three fights. Tough fight, but I'd say same outcome.

Winner : Anderson Silva TKO 3rd (Nate would fight a close first, get beat up the second, and finished in the third)

Chael Sonnen : He is next in line for a title shot, but he is not scheduled for anything.

He was the one who defeated Nate Marquardt in their last fight. He proved his heart, and his abilty to take someone down and control them. Which this was proved on how to defeat Anderson Silva

Dan Henderson used his wrestling to attempt to defeat Anderson, he did fail but won the first round in some views. Cheal would try, but in my opinio Chael would fail.

Winner : Anderson Silva sub. 3rd (He has got submitted a lot in his career, and was nearly submitted to Nate. Anderson is a black belt, and I can see him winning by submission.)

Dan Henderson? - Jake Shields is next, but Silva is who he wants. Maybe one day?

He was promised a title shot, and Dana screwed him out of it. He deserved it and wanted another shot to dethrone Silva. He did not get it, but in my opinion he had the best chance.

For this very reason, I'm picking him to win it. He proved against Michael he is still one of the hardest hitters in the buisness. He also is one of the best wrestlers, exspecially in that division. Dan is still very dangerous, and just to make things interesting I'm going with.....

Winner : Dan Henderson UD (I just can't see him grounding out Anderson, so a unaminous decision.) Very good and close fight, but I really think that Dan did very well the first time, and the second time he will do even better. Doubt I will ever be able to test this theory though.
