Carmelo Anthony Proves Why Lebron Isn't On His Level.

Tommy RossFeb 26, 2010

With the two being so closely matched, one has to wonder why does Lebron seem to get all the publicity. Lebron is crowned King of the NBA when the only thing that seperates these two is a MVP trophy, a trophy Carmelo would of easily gotten if he didn't have to compete with the likes of Kobe and the deep deep Western Conference.

With Lebron feeling Carmelo's wrath the majority of the time they face off, you would think Anthony would be getting his just due.

The difference maker is oversaturation, Lebron is the more marketable and likeable of the two so he gets things he rightfully deserves such as endorsements and highlight slots on espn. He also gets things he does not deserve such as automatic basketball royalty, and phantom calls in close games.

You know its media manipulation when Lebron gets name drops from ESPN analyst covering sports that have nothing to do with basketball.

Now for the number geeks the numbers mean everything so heres the most critcal statistcal category of any players career NBA championships, both of them score nill in that department.

Since they are so close competitively there is nothing else to judge them on besides skill set. Both players are fierce competitors but only one has the killer instinct and thats Carmelo.

There last meeting Carmelo matched Lebron stride for stride the kicker was the bulk of Carmelo's points were scored on Lebron including the dagger he left in the heart of the 6-8 260 pound susperstar.

I always knew Lebron's one on one defense was overrated but that game exposed it to the world. With Carmelo scoring on Lebron at will it showed that James is not invincible.

On to the offensive skills, Lebron and Carmelo are pretty close in 3pt percentage so I'll push that category.

Mid-range game Carmelo hands down,Lebron simply doesn't have a mid range game at all.

In the post Carmelo gets the edge again while Lebron can but seldomly post up smaller defenders, Carmelo is strong enough to post up just about anybody.

Driving ability that edge definitely goes to Lebron, while both of them are prolific at getting to the basket Lebron has a slight advantage when it comes to finishing.

Lebron eclipses Carmelo in passing ability also, not because Carmelo doesn't have court vision, but due only to Carmelo playing a role of a traditional forward and leaving the guard play to the guards.

Contrary to popular opinion Carmelo is the better defender, his on the ball defense is stellar and his defense isn't that far behind Lebron's.

Rebounding category is too close to even discuss so push.

Freethrow shooting goes to Carmelo by a landslide to many times I've watched Lebron get bailed out by the refs, just to lose the game anyways due to bad free throw shooting.

Case in point the Orlando Cavs playoff series last year. Lebron got all the calls and missed all of the critical freethrows you could see the NBA pulling for the Lebron Kobe finals but LBJ just couldn't make good on his freebies.

Though a close battle I have to concede that Carmelo is the more well rounded player out of the two.
