Liverpool Fc : Will Yossi Benayoun Be The Next Xabi Alonso ??

Kaustav BoseFeb 26, 2010

Most widely referred to as the biggest blunder made by Liverpool fc in the 2009-10 summer window was that of the selling of Xabi Alonso...Xabi was by then one of the most creative players and more importantly a very critical player for Liverpool...his rise to fame at the club had already by then been one of the cover stories of Liverpool fc in the last decade. Rightly or wrongly a lot of people sum up Liverpool's this year's dismal performance as an effect of Xabi's departure..

However, Liverpool fc are still currently sixth in the premier league but not very much off the race for a number four spot. Post Xabi's departure his position was given to Lucas , which again many think was not acceptable..However, the Real Madrid trip for xabi meant that Liverpool was left with just one creative player in mid-field who could match the best in the league on his day, Yossi Benayoun. A highly under-rated player in the premier league (if not the most under-rated) Yossi has been one of the best buys under Rafa benitez. The Ex-hammer's impact on the Liverpool side cannot be denied by any honest follower of the game. A great team-man who gives his all everytime he gets on the pitch..Benayoun has been an  inspiration in many a game for the Reds. Some of which are the victory over Manchester United this season at Anfield or the famous 4-4 draw vs Arsenal last season, but most spectacular was his solitary goal at the bernabeu last year in an away fixture against Real Madrid.. Bought at a very moderate price the Israeli captain has surely proved his weight worth in gold for the team..

As expected such motivated and committed performances from Yossi didn't go unnoticed by many clubs, and in the january transfer window which was far from "happening stuff" that every transfer window is supposed to be for the EPL, Clubs like Olympiakos and Dinamo Moscow did seemingly prepare bids to buy away the currently most creative player at Anfield. Yossi being of a silent kind, didn't choose to do anything that emphasised his desire to either stay committed or leave the club.Which is very contradictory to the reaction of Gerrard or Torres when any such rumors surfaced..When on the pitch however Yossi's commitment is still an asset to the Reds but if the last words of the President of Dinamo Moscow fc are to be belived, then Yossi has already agreed to move on from Anfield. Although the then prevailing transfer window failed to give ample evidence to that ..as Rafa benitez is said to have replied with a "he is not for sale" answer..

It must however be pointed out that should the Reds be able to pull off a good run and manage the coveted no. 4 spot this time, however well yossi performs at the end of the day if there are no new investors, liverpool fc need money to buy talents this summer as the current season has been all but very disappointing so far..and few should doubt that Yossi's age being 29..should a sizeable offer be on the cards from the Russians ..the Anfield outfit may well be set to lose another of their critical player in Benayoun.

Whoever be bought thereby to replace Benayoun will have an equally mamoth task ahead of him, and Liverpool fc may well face a situation similar to that when Alonso left the club..If not for a very lucky and good pick (unlike the injured Aquilani last time) to replace Benayoun be bought in who  proves to be an instant hit..It can very well be argued that Liverpool's under-rated dynamo will be missed should he follow Alonso (as in the picture) out of Anfield..even if Gerrard and Torres stay a Red as they promise to..

Do we see history repeating for the History repeating ? I pray not ...What do you say..??
