Bridge Decision Opens Door for Baines
Wayne Bridge's decision to forfeit the chance to play for England at the World Cup could open up the door for Everton left-back Leighton Baines.
Manchester City defender Bridge released a short statement on Thursday morning claiming his presence within the national squad was potentially "divisive" and that he did not wish to be selected.
The move comes after details about a relationship between Bridge's former partner Vanessa Perroncel and Chelsea defender John Terry came to light.

"It has always been an honour to play for England," said Bridge.
"However, after careful thought, I believe my position in the squad is now untenable and potentially divisive."
With Ashley Cole injured, the news leaves Fabio Capello without his two first-choice left-backs ahead of Wednesday's tussle with Egypt and it opens the door for Baines.
Baines has started 25 of Everton's 26 Premier League games this season and has been a rock at the back for resurgent Toffees.
He's also been a huge contributor to Everton as an attacking force and although he's only got one goal, his assists are into double figures.
Aston Villa's Stephen Warnock, whose international career currently consists of six minutes as a substitute against Trinidad & Tobago in June 2008, is another contender, but Baines' composure should mean he's next in line.
Although former Wigan man Baines has been included in the senior squad before he is still uncapped, but that should change at Wembley next week.
Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott could also be on the shortlist, but his season has been blighted by injury and he is unlikely to get the nod from Capello.
England's World Cup odds make them third favourites to win the tournament in South Africa, but the absence of Cole would be a real blow to their chances.
Next week's friendly will give Baines a chance to prove he can cut it at international level.
Meanwhile, anyone with a Cheltenham free bet might be tempted to place it on Kauto Star in the Festival's showpiece race the Gold Cup.
