Fantasy Baseball: Value Strikeout Options

Ryan LesterFeb 24, 2010

So you didn’t invest an early pick on Tim Lincecum or Justin Verlander. That doesn’t mean the well is dry for strikeout pitchers. Here are some good value options.

Brett Anderson: A popular “sleeper” pick that gaining popularity. I’m afraid the cat is out of the bag, but he still should come at a nice value...this year.

Jorge de la Rosa : He’s averaged 9.17 K/9 over the past two years with Colorado. There is still a stigma being a pitcher in Colorado. One that you can use to your advantage.

Ryan Dempster :  He’s averaging 179.5 strikeouts over the past two years. His numbers took a step back last year, but were still solid. He should be better in 2010.

Ricky Nolasco :  The 5.06 ERA he posted last year should scare some owners off. He’s a very talented pitcher though, and was much better in 2008. He could easily return to form and rack up 200 Ks.

Marc Rzepczynski :  Made the most of his time last year racking up 60 Ks in 61.3 innings. 160+ Ks should be within reach.

Jonathan Sanchez:   He can be downright nasty, even unhittable at times, but comes with control issues.

Max Scherzer:   The transition from the National League to the American League could be a difficult one. We’re still talking about a kid with immense talent though. He should have no problems making hitter miss.

Randy Wolf :  Wolf has averaged 161 strikeouts the past two seasons. He’s added double-digit wins and a respectable ERA. Should be solid for Milwaukee.
