Stephan Bonnar, Krzysztof Soszynski Agree on Rematch After Controversial Ending
Sherdog.com reported on Feb. 22 that Stephan "The American Psycho" Bonnar and Krzysztof "The Polish Experiment" Soszynski have agreed on a rematch.
Bonnar and Soszynski met in the Octagon as a preliminary fight on the UFC 110 card, headlined by Cain Valasquez and Minotauro Noguiera. After their fight ended in controversy, talk already started about a possible rematch between the two.
After two hard-fought rounds between Bonnar and Soszynski, with the fight seeming to be leaning Soszynski's way, they began the third and final round.
During an exchange, an accidental clash of heads left Stephan Bonnar cut badly, and bleeding prefusely.
Referee John Sharp, working his first UFC event, stopped the fight to have the ringside doctor take a look at the cut. Immediately, when the doctor looked at it he said Bonnar could not continue.
The controversy started when the referee, John Sharp, declared Soszynski the winner by TKO due to doctor stoppage. Sharp never saw the accidental headbutt between the two fighters.
The result of the fight could be appealed and the fight could possibly be overturned. If this does happen, the decision of who wins depends on the scores of the judges for the first two rounds.
All I know is I am excited for a rematch between these two fighters. I still think Krzysztof Soszynski will win, like I thought he would win the first meeting.
But Stephan Bonnar has an incredibly tough chin and a lot of heart. So this should be a very anticipated rematch.
“If the UFC wants it and fans want it, I think we should finish what we started," Soszynski said.
A date for this bout has yet to be scheduled, but I think the fans of the UFC want to see a rematch between these two warriors.
