Randy Orton: The WWE's Ultimate Anti-Hero

The Doctor Chris MuellerFeb 23, 2010

Randy Orton is one of WWE's top wrestlers, and his family pedigree no longer has anything to do with it.

For a long time, people seemed to think Orton had gotten this far on his family legacy in the business. But over the past few years we have seen him transform into a whole new kind of wrestler.

In wrestling there tends to be a line between the good and the bad. Bad guys get booed and good guys get cheered. Bad guys cheat and good guys overcome. But Orton has surpassed all that and become someone fans love and hate at the same time.

This rise to fame is similar to another WWE wrestler I have mentioned in the past: Stone Cold Steve Austin. Both wrestlers were portraying Heel characters and began getting babyface reactions in some venues.

Stone Cold went on to become one of the most popular wrestlers of all time; Orton could be on his way to that same category as well.

With Orton's recent actions, and the crowd reactions he gets these days, a face turn seems inevitable.

Randy Orton is what some might call a superheel: He can use his facial expressions alone to get over with a crowd.

Orton's moveset may be slightly limited due to his character at the moment, but once he becomes a face, he will be able to do more with what he has. Traditionally, Heels have not been pushed the way Orton has been, and that says something about his skill and popularity.

My hope is that within a month we see Orton do a full face turn and take on Ted Di Biase at Wrestlemania.
