Beckman, McClenathan Win In Phoenix, Pro Stock Postponed Till March

Dustin H.Feb 22, 2010

The NHRA Lucas Slick Mist Nationals from Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix Arizona turned into a tragedy Sunday when a female fan was killed by debris or a wheel coming off the top fuel dragster of Antron Brown in round one Sunday. It seemed as if the studs broke off or something terrible happened sending the car into the wall. Brown was ok and was treated at a local hospital but we lost a fan due to serious injuries sadly. Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone and the sport that was affected by the accident on Sunday. The final eliminations continued Sunday but were dampered due to rain and there as alot of trouble all weekend with Pro Stock after two cars crashed on Saturday and flipped down the race track both drivers were fine. Pro Stock only had one round of action Sunday and it was postponed due to weather and track conditions it will finish in three weeks during qualifying for the Gator-Nationals in Gainesville, Florida.

The Nitro finals did happen on Monday afternoon after a lengthly rain delay. John Force went up against Jack Beckman and it was Beckman who took his first wally of 2010 defeating force with a 4.121 @ 301.13mph to a losing 6.316 @ 106.24 john did have trouble and look to have spun the tires or went into tire shake. On the other end it was Cory McClenathan up against Doug Kalitta and McClenathan took his first win of the year with a 3.813 @ 316.67mph to a losing 4.736 @ 219.47mph. So the series is off for three weeks and will be back at Gainesville for the Tire Kingdom GatorNationals and Pro Stock Motorcycle will debut for the year there.

What talks may come up about safety again. What changes may come to Pro Stock if any and what about fan safety. The NHRA has done a great job trying to make things as safe as they can with going to 1,000 ft, to the safety in the cars and at the tracks so everyone knows the risk involved and sadly we lost another person this weekend may god bless the family and the sport.
