Kenny Smith is A Idiot: Lakers Winning Without Kobe No Big Deal.
I know it is unprofessional to address another member of the media in a article. Whether it be fellow writer, analyst , or radio personality doesn't make a difference its not something that should not be practiced.
However writing is a hobby to me and not my main source of income so I'm free to say exactly what I feel. Today I will exercise such freedom and ask Kenny Smith what the hell were you smoking when you said on national tv that " The Lakers could make it to the Western Conference Finals without Kobe.
I think its safe to say that Kenny Smith plays on the average age of the NBA viewers when he detracts from Kobe. Those of you that are genuine fans of the NBA know that the Lakers aren't the first team to win without their star in NBA history.
They aren't even the first team to win without their best player this season. The Denver Nuggets didn't miss a beat this year when Carmelo went down with a sprain ankle. For some reason I didn't see any "Are the Nuggets better without Carmelo?" articles floating around the net. For good reason because they are not.
Last year the Houston Rockets took the Lakers to seven games without Mcgrady and Yao, were they a better team without those guys? Absolutely not. They were playing good team basketball against a inconsistent Laker's team that was waiting for Kobe to save them again.
So Kenny is basically saying the same team that went seven games against the Rockets last year could get to the Western Conference without Kobe this year? Negro Please!
Can you imagine the mayhem Marv Albert would of caused if he would of announced nationally that the "Chicago Bulls were better without M.J." the 93-94 season when they were a phantom foul away from defending their title.
Even though the Bulls manage to win without Jordan that whole season there were no idiotic statements being made ,no assinine articles written. It was a known fact that the Bulls were not better without Jordan.
So why is different for the Mamba? Why does the rules suddenly change when it concerns the Lakers? Why was it not a big deal when Kobe lead his team to a 8-3 record when Gasol was out?
So the question still stands Kenny what narcotic were you sniffing when you came up with that statement? I guess the Lakers going 4-0 while Kobe was hurt cancels out the previous 5 games he single handedly bailed his team out of.
I guess no one noticed that the Lakers went 4-0 against teams with a lack of physical inside pressence. Case in point when Boston came to Tinsel Town a Lakers loss was etched in stone. We all know that Gasol struggles against physical bigs and once again he was tossed around like a rag doll.
That in itself is the sole reason why the Laker's are not better without the Mamba. Their bigs are too soft and inconsistent to carry the load without Kobe. Kobe may command the ball alot, he may shoot sometimes when he should pass. Jerry West did it, Elgin Baylor did it, Jordan made a living off doing it. So when will Kobe get his pass.
One thing is for certain everytime Kobe touches the ball he puts pressure on the defense whether he is hurt or not he commands a double team. Which allows guys to get free for open looks they would not have gotten if Kobe wasn't playing.
Point blank with that statement Kenny exposed himself as a Kobe hater. Don't get me wrong I love Kenny but thats something I would of expected Charles to say.
