UFC 110 Preview: Chris Lytle vs. Brian Foster Is The Forgotten Matchup
The main and co-main events of the night feature mixed martial arts legends Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira taking on Cain Velasquez and Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva stepping back into action against Ultimate Fighter 3 winner Michael Bisping.
In addition to those two matchups, Dana White and Joe Silva were determined to give the Australian fight fans a matchup that could steal fight of the night honors away from the main card.
UFC 110 features a welterweight fight that pits Chris "Lights Out" Lytle (27-17-5) vs. Brian Foster(13-4).
Lytle is a winner of three straight Fight of the Night awards and has produced thrilling matchups worthy of a main card slot.
In addition, Foster is coming off a sensational performance against Brock Larson back at UFC 106, in which he showed off some very impressive striking.
Lytle will have the advantage in experience for this matchup as he has thirty two more fights than Foster. Lytle may hold the edge as the more proficient grappler, as he owns 17 victories by submission.
While Lytle's full throttle approach to fighting inside the Octagon keeps fans on the edge of their seats, it could also place Lytle on his as well.
Foster is turning himself into a dangerous striker and is pairing those skills up with solid wrestling abilities.
While Foster's first trip to the Octagon saw him walk away a victim of a submission loss to Rick Story by Arm Triangle Choke at UFC 103, the fight with Larson was a completely different story.
Foster seemed to be a different fighter than the one we saw in his Octagon debut. Using aggressive striking and powerful wrestling, Foster dominated Larson for the entire bout.
Prediction: Lytle will show a solid skill set throughout the bout but will fall prey to Foster, who will get the better of Lytle by mixing takedowns with solid striking en route to a Unanimous Decision victory.
