Nothing But The Best Today For Toffees: How Far Up Can They Go?

Soccer ConvertFeb 20, 2010

What an all around great performance for Everton getting a 3-1 win over Manchester United. Great service thru the midfield from the likes of Arteta, Pienaar, and Donovan led to three top notch goals the best of which came from the youngsters Gosling and Rodwell. Most impressive was the play of the back line which stayed well organized and kept Rooney off the score sheet. With recent wins over Man City, Chelsea, and now Manchester United the question is can they continue their current run of form and push further up the table to challenge for a Europa spot next year or even Top Four?

At the beginning of the season this would have been a laughable question. After getting blown out 6-1 by Arsenal, sitting bottom of the table , and the Jolean Lescott drama. For sure, finishing in the Top Four may still be a bit of a stretch but a spot in Europa seems within their grasp if they can continue their current form and flowing play.

Perhaps the biggest improvement has been on the back line. After the Lescott transfer and a rash of injuries earlier in the season they seem to be solidifying well and playing a more organized game out of the back. If this continues it gives them a real chance to push up the table. Getting some of their midfield back from injury and in form helps too. Combined with promising young talents like Jack Rodwell and Dan Gosling Everton has a lot of key pieces of the puzzle coming together at just the right time.

With a little luck and a month of playing lower table teams next month who knows how high they can climb given their current form. The Toffees are definately playing some of the best football in the EPL right now.

Please share your thoughts. Where do you think they finish?
