Why You Can't Miss Giovanni Segura's Fight This Weekend.
Giovanni Segura (22-1-1 18 KO) isn’t your typical boxer.
He didn’t start fighting until he was 19, and only had 15 amateur bouts. Yet he still managed to win a pro title in only 22 fights. He has an alphabet title, yet he knows that he isn’t the guy at 108 and wants to make the fights so people recognize him as the man.
He fights at 108 pounds but he has bone crunching power.
Above all, Segura is a hardcore boxing fan, just like you and me. He reads the Internet and knows what people say about him. He takes it all in stride, agrees with most of it, and goes out to try and fix it. Segura is a throwback fighter all the way too.
His boxing skills aren’t that great, and he has not let the frustrating 108 pound division slow him down. He knows that he isn’t the best boxer and he doesn’t try to be the best boxer.
He knows that he has power and that he has heart. Most of the time the guy he is fighting is a better boxer hands down. That doesn’t slow Segura as he makes them fight his fight. He makes them throw power shots and he takes them out of their element.
He has good names on his resume like Franciso Arce, former Colombian Olympian Carlos Tamara (who now holds a major title), former champion Daniel Reyes, and most recently he avenged his only loss against Cesar Canchila.
To be honest Walter Tello (14-3 6 KO)isn’t a great fighter. He shouldn’t provide much of a test tomorrow but watching Segura is a lot of fun. I saw his first fight against Canchila and the highlights of the second fight and boy were they fun.
Regardless of the opponent tomorrow you should tune in because this should be the start of a very fun journey.
He wants Ivan Calderon and wants him now but he realizes he may have to fight some other guys to get that. He is willing to do that as well. He’s not afraid that Calderon is one of the best pure boxers in the world, he wants to be known as the man at 108 and will go through fire to achieve it.
Segura does good ratings in boxing crazy Mexico and if you tune in tomorrow you will find out why. The guy has overachieved in every sense of the word and still isn’t happy. Win or lose tomorrow, he is going to provide fans with a good fight. Maybe if we are lucky, this will be a start to an exciting journey.
Highlights of 2nd Canchila fight.
