New PPV Names For May-July
WWE.com has updated their PPV schedule and it looks like Backlash, Judgment Day, and The Bash are history. Here is the updated schedule...
April: Extreme Rules
May: Wild Card
June: Fatal Four Way
July: Money in the Bank
WWE seems to have looked at the numbers and they just weren't so happy with what they saw. You can't blame though as buyrates are down, people would rather stream than pay for the show, and the PPV's just don't seem to have much worth. Some may knock a gimmick show, but it does create buzz and make for interesting matches.
The new names, though, are interesting. WWE seems to think that having gimmick themed PPV's is the way to go and with the buyrates of last year, they may be right. The fatal four way PPV should be exciting. One of my favorite matches is where HHH defended his belt against The Rock, Mick Foley, and Big Show who all had a McMahon in their corner at WrestleMania 2000. This was supposed to be Foley's retirement match and was at the Pond of Anaheim. Man, I lived 15 minutes from there and wish I had tickets. If the show is anything like that match, you got my money, WWE.
The wild card match is intriguing. Could this be a tournament type match, kind of like King of the Ring? Maybe have some guys fight and the winner fights the champion later that night? I can't wait for the announcement from WWE to explain this concept.
Finally, Money in the Bank. Everyone is a fan of this match and it is finally getting its own PPV. From what I read before, the rules would be having guys wrestle that night for a spot in MITB. The winners all go on and wrestle later that night in the MITB match. This could be a bit extreme as wrestling in the MITB match alone takes a toll on one's body and can leave them in pain for days and or weeks. However, as a fan, to see guys wrestle twice in one night is exciting and I miss the days of when wrestlers used to pull double duty at a show. All in all, this could make people talk and actually shell out the cash for the show.
