The headlining bout at UFC 110 in Sydney could become a title eliminator, UFC President Dana White has confirmed.
The victor of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez could end up being the first to fight Brock Lesnar in his summer Octagon return, White stated during the UFC 110 pre-fight press conference. He also confirmed that, in an ideal world, the winner of the interim title fight between Frank Mir and Shane Carwin would be first in line for a shot at the undisputed title.
"Mir and Carwin are going to fight for the interim belt because that fight was made before Brock said he was coming back," said White. "In a perfect scenario, Mir and Carwin fight, one of them wins, comes out healthy and then we do the Brock fight... But the winner of this fight (Nogueira vs. Velasquez) puts them right in the mix because if something should happen to Carwin or Mir so they couldn't fight Brock, the winner of this fight would fight Brock."
Judging by the UFC's recent trend of pre-fight injuries, Nogueira or Velasquez can be slightly confident that a win this weekend could get them a shot at the belt. However, they still have to face each other first, in what will prove to be a very interesting match up in Sydney.
