There was a time when I thought Tiger Woods was the best and most successful athlete in the world.

Now I think he is either incredibly stupid and/or the most arrogant.

Woods has scheduled a press conference for Friday, February 19, 2010, invited hand-picked members of the press, and will not answer any questions.

Thanks, Tiger.  Why not simply post another announcement on your website?

Whoever is giving Tiger Woods advice should find a new day job.  What does Tiger hope to accomplish by not taking questions?

His agent announced that he will discuss his past, future, and apologize for what has happened.

Frankly, who cares about an apology; that's between him and his family.  However, there is absolutely no reason to schedule a presser if you are not going to answer any questions.

Here's what is going to happen.  He'll sit down for five or 10 minutes, recap what has happened, tell us when he will come back, and then apologize for his transgressions.  Then he will stand up, shake a hand or two, and walk out.

There, I did my job for humanity.  I saved up to 10 minutes of someone's life by summarizing what one would see if they actually watched this press conference.

Tiger, I am a simple man who is still a big fan of yours.  Therefore, let me offer some advice.

First, we know you screwed up big time.  We don't need you to apologize to us for what you did.  Actually, you provided an example of how badly the best golfer in the world can fall from grace by acting stupidly and arrogantly.

Second, if you are going to schedule a press conference, then schedule a real press conference.  Allow whoever wants to attend to attend.  Don't limit which members of the fourth estate can attend your presser.

Finally, once and for all, answer the questions the world wants answered.  Your fans will eventually forgive you, but the healing process cannot begin until you initiate it.

What's in store for Tiger when he returns to the course?

First of all, you can bet some moron or morons will toss condoms onto the field.  Bet on it.

Next, after a few beers, some spectator will scream out boorish comments that would make most grown men blush.  Even Tiger's legendary ability to focus will be tested when vulgar insults are said in his back swing.

Bottom line is the shadow of his transgressions will continue to follow him until he faces up to the questions everyone wants answered.  The questions will not go away.

Tiger, get it over with and answer the questions.  The only thing you are accomplishing by sticking your head in the sand is delaying the inevitable.

We will tune in when Tiger tee's off upon his return.  Perhaps that's the problem with the entire situation that in the end, Woods may end up controlling and doing exactly what he wants.
