Big Brawl In The Big East Between Syracuse and Georgetown-Who Wins?

James BrownFeb 17, 2010

Big East Preview and Pick: Syracuse @ Georgetown

The Big East has proved early and often that this is the best conference this year in all of college basketball. They have plenty of teams in the top ten and should get the most teams into the field of 65 in March. Two of the best teams from the Big east will battle Thursday night when the Syracuse Orangemen take on the Georgetown Hoyas.

Syracuse Vs. Georgetown

Current Line: Georgetown -1

Syracuse has flirted with the #1 spot in the country all year and have one of the better teams that has ever taken the court for Syracuse. This team is fresh off an upset to Louisville and the reason may be because one of their best players, Wesley Johnson had a very bad shooting performance. In the game against Louisville he was just 5-for-20 and he has averaged just around ten points a game in the last four games. If this trend continues then Syracuse could have a tough time down the stretch against the Big east.

Georgetown is a tough team to figure out. Like Syracuse they are off an upset loss as the Hoyas lost to Rutgers. However this year at home they have looked like the best team in the conference as they have throttled great teams like Duke and toppled Villanova. Now Syracuse comes to town. The loss to Rutgers can be chalked up to looking ahead to this showdown with Syracuse as the Hoyas dropped an earlier game to South Florida in similar fashion. There is one thing for sure this will be a must watch game for college basketball fans.

I hate to say any team coached by Jim Boeheim would look by a conference opponent but the Cuse have a special game in late February when the College Game Day crew comes to town. Georgetown lost looking ahead to this game which may help them as they are 5-1 ATS in the last six games coming off a straight up loss. They have played very well at home this year and are 4-1ATS in the last five at home. Look for a back and forth game that goes to the buzzer but the edge is to the home team since they are 4-0 ATS in the last four games. Take the Hoyas to win at home!
