West Montgomery: 71 Wildcats: 58
This is one of those games where, the score doesn't represent the in its entirety. This one was a closely fought ballgame where neither team had much of an advantage. Kind of like two heavyweight fighters slugging it out for twelve rounds, with neither having much of an advantage.
February 8th, 2010. Senior night for the South Davidson Wildcats. I know Senior Night is suppose to be the last home game of the regular season, but due to recent weather, the cats will play one more game in front of all their fans before the seniors depart for the real world.
With a big game atmosphere in the arena, tip-off finally occured. South's seniors came out quickly and jumped out to a 7-0 lead, after baskets by Josh McClure, Cody Smith and a three point basket by Tyler Davis. The cats were clearly trying a run and gun offensive approach and deliver a knockout punch early. Well, West Montgomery wasn't having it! Back to back baskets made it 7-4. Seven to four serenely turned into 11-9 and a West Montgomery lead to end the the first quarter of play.
The pace never seemed to slow for the Warriors, but fortunately for Wildcat fans, they didnt' slow either. Both teams executed nicely, West Montgomery getting inside for easy buckets and the Wildcats hitting perimeter shots, free throws and getting penetration for an easy two.. Sophomore Wil Collins showed some never before seen fire, displaying a great show of intensity and getting the fans hyped up. Tyler Davis hit his second three pointer of the night right before the half, making the score WM: 38 SD:26
Third Quarter- Very impressive performance! Wil Collins kept the intensity up, Josh McClure hit two crucial three's and Doug Russell pulled down rebound after rebound and showed a very nice offensive game. Dane Hill hit a couple jump shots and Alex Grubb played stellar defense. End of three West Montgomery: 52 SD:48
This is where things got out of hand. The offense just wasn't clicking anymore for South like it did throughout the first three quarters. Twice, they pulled the lead to four, but West Montgomery wouldn't let them get any closer than that. The Warriors eventually pull away and win the game by a score of 71-58.
I'm sure it wasn't the way the Wildcat seniors saw this game play out in their head, but life goes on and there are more games to focus on. So buckle down guys and end your season on a strong note.
Thoughts on the game-
Josh McClure- It was very intense!
Wil Collins- It was a hard physical game, very close, but we had some things that just didn't go our way.
Leading the cats was Josh McClure with 16 points. Tyler Davis and Doug Russell both had 8.
