Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and Lady Gaga: What Do They Have in Common?

Yoosof FarahFeb 17, 2010

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney and singer/songwriter Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (or more commonly known to you and I as Lady Gaga) could not seem more different than one another.

One is an English male ogre-looking football player, and the other is a, questionably, beautiful American female solo artist.

However, on Feb. 16, an interesting analogy was made between them.

Milan Magic

On a cold Tuesday night in Milan, Italy, Wayne Rooney showed his worth as one of the main contenders for the 2010 FIFA World Player of the Year award.

The England superstar netted two exquisite goals to help Manchester United do a first over AC Milan: score against them at the San Siro.

And not only that, but United also gained a first-ever win over AC Milan at the San Siro—something they hadn't achieved in four previous attempts.

The night very much belonged to Rooney, who's eye for goal, brilliant positioning, great hold-up play, domineering aerial ability, intelligent forward runs and fantastic finishing proved why he clearly is as good as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

It is a well-known fact that big game players make the difference in big games; it didn't get much bigger than facing AC Milan at the San Siro in front of a soldout 80,000 crowd in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.

Wayne Rooney was the difference in the match in Milan as he inspired Manchester United to an exhilarating and historic victory.

He proved that he has the ability and potential to dominate World Football in the coming years.

Lady London

On a cold Tuesday night in London, England, Lady Gaga displayed her worth as one of the best recording artists worldwide of this coming decade.

At the forever controversial Brit Awards, the Gaga-ooh-la-la claimed a hat trick of well- deserved trophies and gave an electrifying stage performance, taking London and the music world by storm.

The polemic American won Best International Album for "The Fame," as well as Best International Female Solo Artist and Best International Breakthrough Act.

Since rising to stardom just over a year ago, Lady Gaga has won a total of 41 awards and has received a total of 102 nominations, as well as five No.1 hits from her debut album.

So what's the analogy then?

Wayne Rooney and Lady Gaga may seem quite different, but there is one common denominator that makes us realise they're not so different after all.

On Feb.16, both Rooney and the Gaga showed that they are capable of world domination in their respective industries.

From newspapers to online sites like Bleacher Report and from television to radio, you'll be hearing much much more of Wayne Rooney and Lady Gaga in 2010 and beyond.

You probably won't be able to escape the new No.1 smash hit from Lady Gaga on the radio and television.

And in the back pages of your morning newspaper, you probably won't be able to escape Wayne Rooney and yet another one of his match-winning performances for Manchester United or Real Madrid.
