Pacquiao vs. Margarito? Margarito Could Finally Get Punished in the Ring

According to Bob Arum, a Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito fight is possible for November. Margarito was scheduled to fight on the under-card of the Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey fight. The plan was to have a buildup towards a fight between the two, with the hype starting on this night

Margarito had problems gaining a boxing license and it appears he will now fight on May 8^th in Mexico. With the problems mounting and the card getting closer they were forced to take him off. It is possible if Margarito wins his next two, and looks good in both that he will get a shot at Pacman.

This fight looks really good on paper. Margarito is a massive welterweight as he stands at 5’11 inches and has a 73 inch reach. Compare that to Pacquiao’s 5’6 and a half with only a 67 inch reach and the size advantage is amazing. Seeing how Roach and Pacquiao would attack this difference would be interesting to see. The biggest fight Pacquiao has faced was Oscar De La Hoya who is very comparable at 5’10 a half and also had a 73 inch reach.

We all know that De La Hoya turned in his worst performance and basically was noncompetitive. You can’t really make any predictions off of this fight on how Pac will fare against a bigger opponent. It is sort of a non issue as Margarito doesn’t use his height as he wades in and throws bombs.

The two reasons this fight is interesting to me is it would be another challenge for Pac and it would really determine if Margarito was loading his wraps all along or if he was at some point a good welterweight titlist who made a mistake along the way.

If this fight is made, Pacquiao would walk through Margarito. Margarito doesn’t use his height and has no form of a jab to keep Pacquiao off him. Also, I believe that his KO wins were all aided by the hand wraps and that his power is non existent. Before we get ahead of ourselves, lets hope that Pac beats Clottey and Margarito gets some wins so we can see Margarito get what he deserves, a good old fashion ass beating in the ring.
