AC Milan 2-3 Manchester United : Player Ratings

Manchester United are now favorites to advance to the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League following a Wayne Rooney-inspired 2-3 win at San Siro.

Milan took the lead in the 3rd minute through Ronaldinho, Milan was dominating the game but United got a fortunate equalizer in the 36th minute when the ball went in off the standing leg of Paul Scholes.

United then went two goals ahead with a quickfire double from Wayne Rooney in the 66th and 74th minute. But Clearence Seedorf's late goal gave Milan a ray of hope for the second leg at Old Trafford.

Edwin Van der Sar  7: Couldn't have done anything for both the Milan goals, but did well overall.

Rafael da Silva 4
: Ronaldinho was all over Rafael, and he was ran ragged by Ronaldinho throughout the game. He was at fault for the second Milan goal.

Rio Ferdinand 6
: Had a decent game but was a bit uncertain at times but made a crucial block in the end to deny Ambrosini which could prove crucial.

Jonny Evans 6: Seemed overwhelmed by the occasion, didn't play that well and he too has to take the blame for the second goal.

Patrice Evra 8: Played really well, kept Pato quiet and was raided down the left in attack when needed.

Luis Nani  6: Was average at best, didn't created much and was sloppy with his passing. Was replaced by Valencia in the 2nd half.

Michael Carrick 7: A solid performance by Carrick, did what was required but got sent off for a rather soft second yellow.

Paul Scholes 6: Was sloppy early on in the game, got a lucky goal, but came into the match as the match progressed.

Darren Fletcher 8.5: Top performance by Fletcher, kept the Milan midfield in check and set up Rooney's second goal with a precise cross.

Ji Sung Park 7: Played well and very hard, linked well with Rooney in attack.

Wayne Rooney  9.5: Top-notch performance by Rooney and capped it off with two invaluable goals.

Substitutes:

Antonio Valencia 7.5: Came on in the 64th minute and set up the goal for Rooney with a cross from the right, he had the taking of Favalli and pushed him back with his pace.

Wes Brown: n/a: 92nd minute substitute.
