Johnny Moore is a former University of Texas Longhorn basketball player who played in the NBA for the San Antonio Spurs where he had his number (00) retired. Johnny’s had plenty of stories to tell in between the questions, but below is a list of some of the topics covered in the interview.

What it was like to play in Central Texas for both his college and pro career.

What it was like play for the Spurs organization.

What he thinks is different from today’s game compared to when he was playing.

What types of offenses he likes.

What it’s like to be scrutinized on a daily basis.

When asked about the toughest players he played against in the 1980s, he talks about playing against Magic Johnson, Isaiah Thomas, John Stockton, and covering Michael Jordan.

About his playing days and getting his jersey retired.

He shared a story that Tiny Archibald was his idol and that he got to play against him early in his career.

Talked about playing with the “Ice Man” George Gervin.

He told the story of when he nearly got a quadruple double in one game!

We then talked about his opinion of the current UT Longhorns team and how well Rick Barnes is doing coaching the team.

Shared that Jim Crevaks, a teammate of his at UT, was the best shooter he ever saw and his work ethic pushed him to develop tougher mentally.

His thoughts on the recent All-Star Game.

When we asked him to share what he’s doing now, he explained that he has a golf tournament to raise money for a benefit. His benefit golf tournament can be found on www.bcfs.net. The tournament will be in May.

Also has a select basketball team called Austin Ice, who he’s coached since eighth grade and now they’re seniors and he focuses on their mind, body, and spirits. Host tournament will be in June and he has a raffle coming up.

Final words were to wish Rick Barnes and the Longhorns well. “You’ve been representing well, but we want more!”
