Tiff Daniels: From South Africa to Victory Lane in the Daytona 500

Over the past few weeks, Tiffany Daniels, up and coming female racer, has been sharing her adventures with her teammate Marc Davis in their ASA race in South Africa.

Daniels finished seventh at the ASA Transcontinental Series Free State 500 at the Phakisa Freeway Circuit in Welkom, South Africa.

But when Tiff is not on the race track, she is busy in her full-time job as an engineer with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing.

So, this past weekend, she was part of the winning team of Jamie McMurray, driver of the No. 1 Bass Pro Shop for EGR, who won the 52nd running of the Daytona 500.

"What a great two weeks!" Daniels said.  "First the South Africa trip was fantastic.  The Phakisa Freeway was a great track to drive and I had a blast racing on my first mile-and-a-half."

Although Daniels and her teammate Marc Davis had heavy hearts during the trip due to the death of Marc's father Harry, Daniels had a good race with a top 10 finish.  Davis had an even better run, taking the third spot in the January 31st Free State 500.

"We were fortunate to have a good race," Daniels said.  "We overcame some obstacles including a flat right rear tire and getting hit on pit road.  In spite of that, we were able to finish seventh in the No. 19 SnowTheRacehorse.com Toyota."

Daniels returned from her race in South Africa to report to her full-time engineering job at Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, and she was just in time to share in the first win of the season in the "Great American Race."

"Now exactly two weeks since my race, I can say that my organization just won the Daytona 500!" Daniels said enthusiastically.  "I've been an engineer at EGR for two and a half years and during that time we have only won one Cup race with Juan Pablo Montoya at Infineon in 2007."

"I definitely have to congratulate Jamie McMurray, Bono, and the whole No. 1 travel team for bringing home the win," Daniels said.  "It is definitely the new highlight of my engineering career at EGR!"

Daniels has not yet worked closely with the new Daytona 500 winner Jamie McMurray.  "I have not yet had a chance to work with Jamie yet although I have met him at the shop," Daniels said.  "I do know the team has really enjoyed working with him so far."

"He has a passion for the sport, wants to do whatever he can do to be successful, and really understands the importance of getting to know the team and building a good rapport with them," Daniels said.

"I'm sure Jamie will be in the shop later his week," Daniels continued.  "I'm looking forward to working with him when I travel to our next test sessions in a few weeks."

While McMurray continues his celebration as the newly crowned Daytona 500 winner, accolades continue for EGR engineer and driver Daniels as well.

"It was great to have a talent like Tiff Daniels race with us in the Republic of South Africa in the Free State 500 event," Dennis Huth, ASA President, said.  "We would like to congratulate her on her seventh-place finish and now being a part of a Daytona 500 Championship team."
